PDG 2000: maximum likelihood & phylogeny estimation

Last Year at Harvard the Phylogeny Discussion Group explored the topic of ML in phylogeny estimation in some detail. Speakers were selected to provide a representative cross section of proponents and opponents to discuss conceptual, methodological, and even epistemological aspects of the subject. We alternated between paper sessions, where we reviewed the basic literature and read selected papers by forthcoming speakers, and seminars held about every month, where invited speakers gave informal presentations and discussed various issues with participants.

Last year's PDG hosted the following invited speakers:

John Huelsenbeck, University of Rochester
Michael J. Sanderson, University of California, Davis
Mark E. Siddall, American Museum of Natural History
Gavin Naylor, Iowa State University
Trevor Price, University of California, San Diego
Junhyong Kim, Yale University
Paul Lewis, University of Connecticut
David Swofford, Smithsonian Institution
