Malaysia is very wired! We should not be too far from communication resources at any time. Tell your friends and family! However, good cellphone and wireless etiquette will be expected and enforced (No SMS or browsing during lectures!!!).

Phone

• Bring your GSM phone and pick up a local SIM card for ca. RM 10 (Celcom, Digi, etc.). Purchase and registration only takes ca. 15 mins.
• The Maliau Basin study center has a cell phone repeater, so you should be able to call out from there.
• We will have an Aces satellite phone for more remote locations.

Internet

• GPRS seems to work well, so slow communications are possible wherever there is signal. Consider a Bluetooth phone.
• There are numerous wireless cafes and hotel lobbies in Kota Kinabalu.
• The Maliau Basin study center has a satellite internet connection.
